New height champion for Oregon sugar pine

259 sugar.jpg
I recently visited southern Oregon with John Montague. We found a 259' sugar pine in a gully of the Rogue River Watershed. Previous height champion for Oregon was 254.92'. The dbh of the tree is under 7' so it will not accumulate enough points for AF champion status. The measurement was handheld Trupulse 200X. We both got 259' independently and repeatedly. I'll do a tripod measurement later this year or maybe next but I don't expect the results to change much. Is this the tallest sugar pine in Oregon ? I am expecting taller ones will be found elsewhere.

Michael,

Congratulations. How large of an area in Oregon does the sugar pine occupy?

Bob, Below is an interactive range map link from Chris Earle's website conifers.org (highly recommend visiting this website). Sugar pine goes quite far north to about 30 miles south of Washington state.
