Monster Pines of the Central Sierra
Here are some big tree pictures mostly from my recent expeditions to Eldorado National Forest and Calaveras Big Trees State Park with Mike Hanuschick, the AFA assistant big trees coordinator for California.

Re: Mondo Pondos & Monster Sugars of the Central Sierra
Good grief. Next year I hope to get out west to see some of those trees.

Wow! Great trees, 255' sugar pine is insane! I would not want to be hit by a cone falling out of the top of that fine specimen!

Wow. I think I hear a collective wimper from our eastern species.

Awesome! Simply awesome pines! I love those pines. I did some hiking in the eastern sierra and came across some big ponderosa and a few sugar pines some years back. They were big ole trees but not as big as the ones you posted! Ya I would not want to be hit by a sugar pine cone either. I have one in my house that is 14-16" long!

Mario,
That is actually not Bob VP next to the big white pine. The man in the picture is Luke Ruediger, a big tree hunter and explorer who lives in southern Oregon. From a distance, he looks a lot like Bob VP with the red beard, shorts and baseball cap.

Michael, Wow fantastic trees! I can only imagine how many thousands of trees such as these have been cut in the last 200 years. It must have be unreal before whiteman! Larry
