Banyan Tree Islamorada Florida

Post by Larry Tucei » Tue Jul 26, 2016 8:39 am

Looked at beautiful Banyan tree at Tropical Gardens and Boutique in Islamorada Florida just south of Key Largo. It was raining so I didn't get to measure but I estimate the height to 50' and the spread would be around 75' x 90'. The great tree would have a much larger spread but it has been cut. I have no idea how to measure the Circumference due to all the different sub-trunks. The main group of trunk was about 6-8' in Dia. My first Banyan tree. Larry

Heh Larry....if it seems like I'm following you around the forum this morning....! In any case, once again, check out the Edison grounds in Fort Myers for a much, much larger Banyan. But again, this one is cool too.

I love Banyan trees. They are cool. I have seen 3 in Florida, but I have never seen that one.

This post had me about to leave the same response as Tom! Seeing the Banyan at the Edison estate as a kid left a big impression on me. It is its own small forest.

If I'm not mistaken, the big one at Edison (Fort Myers) covers an acre!
