Is this the world's longest branch?

Post by John Harvey » Mon Dec 14, 2020 10:19 am

So I remember reading a post from 2008 where I believe Dr Bob Van Pelt had a black walnut branch at 94' and several other species with limbs in the 70-80' range. Well anyhow my friend Max (he noticed it first) and I have been eyeing up this redwood branch for a while now and the other day as we walked past it I decided to hit it with my laser. The branch starts at around 150' up the tree and hangs down, zig zagging from left to right. From the point the branch starts to the point that I deemed it to end (not easy as there are several sticks to consider) I got 107'. That is a long limb!
Up until a few years ago I'd already would have put photos up but now a days I'm not sure I should because of certain peoples desire to publish every location imaginable. Anyhow, I don't want to get into that discussion but I will see if there is a way to share more without creating yet another social trail...
