Michael, NTS,

I too was enchanted by an old forest near where I grew up. The Big Oaks near my house were ancient, magical, with the wind through their branches whispering of times long before our own; I used to make up mythical stories about this place of enchantment, tales of fairies, wizards, of centuries-old beings that could talk to me. This place still exists, and I spent 2 beautiful hours today in sunny mild weather. The place is now known as the North Syracuse Cemetery Oak Grove.

It's great that you still go there Tom.

I still visit Penn Wood (named after William Penn the founder of Pennsylvania. Its a mixture of beech used in the furniture trade, Scots pines, some old oaks and lots of imported trees planted by the Earl Howe and his ancestors: spruces, hemlocks, cypresses, Douglas firs and even a few coast redwoods. Every New Year I climb a 105 foot grand fir with views over larch plantations with the spire of Penn Street Church in the distance - perfect.
