Approximate Age of Bur Oak?

Post by Matt Markworth » Thu Oct 29, 2015 6:59 pm

All,

A concerned citizen is trying to educate others about this bur oak in an effort to protect it. It's 15'8" x 75' and resides in Central Ohio. She asked about an approximate age and I'm curious what others may say as a guesstimate.

I had a neighbor growing up in NW Ohio who cut all his field trees (#$%&&*). They were in the ~12' cbh range and were 100-135 years old. I would guess that 150 is conservative - unless it is sitting in swail or some other feature that would hold/channel water.
