Big Maple -- No Hitter!

Post by PAwildernessadvocate » Wed May 09, 2018 10:38 pm

Last night James Paxton, a native of Ladner, British Columbia and a left-handed pitcher for the Seattle Mariners (my favorite baseball team), pitched a no-hitter against the Toronto Blue Jays in Toronto. He is only the second Canadian pitcher to throw a no-hitter in Major League Baseball, and the only one to do it in Canada!

What's the tree connection? His nickname is "Big Maple" and he has a tattoo of a maple leaf on his arm! Embedded in the tattoo of the leaf is an image of his childhood home in British Columbia.

Incidentally, he also had a brief "15 minutes of fame" earlier this season when a bald eagle landed on him before a game in Minnesota!
