NTS-ers,
For those of you 'Jones-ing' to see the completed Measuring Guidelines, all 80+ pages of it, need only go to:
http://www.americanforests.org/wp-conte ... nes_LR.pdf

It's making the rounds with Big Tree Coordinators, so between you guys and the BTC-ers, we (Bob and I) are expecting lots of comments, questions...bring them on, we'll need to practice up!

CONGRATULATIONS Don and Bob on a monumental achievement. We can only imagine the thousands of hours that went into this massive project. And now forward with planning and running measuring workshops, dealing with all the questions, fallout, etc. If the trees could talk, they'd say THANKS!

Patty-
I'd guess we should be glad that Bob isn't 'branching' off into other topics...I 'marble' at Ed Frank's grasp of all things geological, and think that we could take it for 'granite' that he has some good rock jokes! I mean to be 'gneiss', no 'schist'...; ~ }

My lady and fellow Ents,

Now that the AF guidelines are official and published, we're working on problem sets to show people how to tackle both routine and difficult measuring situations. The attachment represents Don's and my first crack at a project. We have two sets. They are probably more toward the advanced end of the spectrum, but our long term intention is to develop three levels of solved problems: beginning, intermediate, and advanced. Maybe will include a special super advanced class developed by our good friend Michael Taylor. The problems will be maintained on the AF website plus with on in the Native Tree Society website. The bank of problems will be used to make up qualifying tests for apprentice Cadre members (see, Patty, I'm listening).

Any problems that any of you would like to see included, for any of the three levels, please don't hesitate to send them. We'll develop appropriate diagrams, the solution, and pertinent analysis and comments. This can be a productive group effort. No problem is too simple to include in the bank.

Bob
