I was interviewed in December for this story on hemlock woolly adelgids, the impact on the smokies, and management success.

Will,

Hearing this reminded me of that nice treated grove of hemlocks you took me to see last April. It was wonderful. I need to revisit it from time to time so I can remember how wonderful an old growth stand of hemlock is.

How long has it been since that stand has been treated and when will it need it again?

Here is a copy of the interview:
"I love science and it pains me to think that so many are terrified of the subject or feel that choosing science means you cannot also choose compassion, or the arts, or be awe by nature. Science is not meant to cure us of mystery, but to reinvent and revigorate it." by Robert M. Sapolsky

Will,

Congratulations. I thought you threaded the needle well when explaining the difference in the priorities between the NPS and the Forest Service. That is a tough question to deal with, especially sense the FS has oversight of a lot of wildreness areas.
