Tomas Ljung: An excellent Turkish site of giant trees. Here's the only photo I have seen so far on the big Vakvak-tree that stood at the Hippodrome in Istanbul until 1898, when it was dropped to make room for the ugly German Fountain of Kaiser Wilhelm II gave to Abdul Hamid. Vakvakträdet is mythical and described for example by Firdausi in Shahnamah and of Thousand and One Night, etc. The tales have Vakvakträdet heads of animals and demons instead of fruits and show people can interact with it. The name can be the huge tree have been since Sultan Mehmet IV had to hang their unfair janitsarer in the tree. The tree can also see the figure in the Turkish shadow theater of Karagöz and Hacivat.

"I love science and it pains me to think that so many are terrified of the subject or feel that choosing science means you cannot also choose compassion, or the arts, or be awe by nature. Science is not meant to cure us of mystery, but to reinvent and revigorate it." by Robert M. Sapolsky
