#1)  Welcome to the ENTS BBS

Postby edfrank » Mon Mar 08, 2010 4:12 pm

Welcome to the Eastern Native Tree Society Bulletin Board.  This board was created on March 7, 2010 to be a replacement for the Google Groups list: http://groups.google.com/group/entstrees?hl=en which had become unmanageable due to the growth of this list.

The board is divided into several broad categories and subdivided into topic specific forums.  Please try to post under the appropriate sub-forum.  Guests can view the posts on this forum without registering.  New members will have their initial posts moderated before they are published to help prevent spamming of the list.   Regular members will have normal access to the list and to polls created.  Posts to the ENTS science forums will be moderated for all regular members to keep the general chatter out of the science discussions.

To see the newest posts on the board click on the link that says Unread Posts on the upper left of the BBS index page.  This provides a single listing of all the posts, wherever they are on the BBS, that the member has not yet read.  New Posts provides a listing of all of the recently active topics in a single list regardless of where they are on the BBS.  So new posts are not hard to find, the poster just needs to post them in the right place  If they are posted in the wrong place Bob or I can move them and maintain all of the replies  intact.  If people want to get every post (including junk mail), they can subscribe to an RSS feed (instructions on the site)

Salutations!

This will definitely be a vast improvement over the Google Groups list.  Thank you for all of your efforts.  I look forward to member introductions and a diversity of posts on the science and art of trees and forests.

Ed,   Fantastic! I think we really needed a change due to the large amout of postings,  so much stuff seems to get lost at our other discussion list. I look forward to the newest addition of ENTS, the BBS.  Larry Tucei

Hi Ed:

I am posting here to get myself "officially" in.  Thanks for all you have done both in setting this up and managing the website.  I don't know how you find the time, energy, and concentration to keep uo with it all.  It is just about all I can manage to learn how to participate!  But, where is everybody?  I don't see many of us here yet!

Hello this is Kirk Johnson in Pennsylvania. I have been a subscriber to the ENTS listserve for many years.

Looks like a good forum you've got going here.

Ed,

Nice job introducing the new system and anticipating questions.  Looks like a lot of thought went into how to structure the hierarchy of sections too.

Might want to check on the "Massacusetts" section though.
