Great White Oaks

The "Treaty Oak" post got me thinking that a post devoted to grand ole White Oaks past and present would be fun.

As soon as I met the home owner who has that huge white oak growing in his back yard and got permission to photograph it, I changed stations and now don't work that area, at all. I'll try to go back off hours and see if he'll let me take the photos as a civilian. It's not the biggest white oak I've ever seen, but it's very gnarly and looks tremendously old. The limbs in the upper sections of the tree are huge. He told me that it was listed as an exceptional tree by the City of Charlotte.
