Tuesday May 14 again the massive lovely live oak we have by the state house hit a low note when one of her major limbs broke off in the storm. Here is the photos of the broken limb from our state newspaper in the link below:

Bummer- I saw that tree in it's prime one time as well. Looks likely that the massive pruning cuts were decayed and lead to failure. If the limbs were removed when healthy they were too big and neglect is to blame. I suppose cutting the break back to that weak little sprout is better than all the way back to the main trunk. Hopefully some new sprouts will arise to keep that section alive and minimize decay. Looks stupid though.

Marcus, What a drag! Hopefully the Sire Oak will recover with some new growth. A big Live Oak 1/4 mile from my house was pruned I thought way to much a couple of years ago. I thought it would not recover- to my amazement it's growing like a weed. I'll get over to it and take a photo of it. Larry
