Re: Asheville Trees, NC
Will,
It's all good. I found a relict stand...at least they appear to be native around Asheville.

Re: Asheville Trees, NC
Just a few updates and a couple of new measurements:
2013 2015
Biltmore Country Club
Platanus occidentalis sycamore 139.6' 143.6'
UNCA Botanical Gardens
Platanus occidentalis sycamore 136.0' 137.9'
124.8' 120.8'
117.6'
115.3'
Taxodium distichum baldcypress 107.1' 107.5' different perspective so i was likely
above midslope
Pinus echinata shortleaf 103.0'
101.2'
Acer rubrum var.??? 88.6'
The Carolina maple may or may not be Carolina. Its bark really stands out as being a little brownish/tan. The leaves have three lobes. It certainly may be a different variety but I couldn't find anything else to match it. It is located on a gravel trail near a garden island on the trail, not too far from the Carolina hemlock shelter.

Brian,
The Carolina red is densely fuzzy and nearly white on the underside of the leaves...
