possible Giant Sequoia in Salem County
In late winter or early spring of 2013 I was driving through Pittsgrove Township, Salem County, and saw this tree in someone's front yard. At the moment that I saw it out of the corner of my eye I dismissed it as a red cedar, but then I got a good look at it, and I'm thinking to myself "What in the world is that?". Then I figured it out, that it's probably a sequoia. Then I was in awe of it. Then on a nice day in April I took these pictures of it.

Very nice! Far taller than any I have seen in the east.

I think the biggest one I've ever seen was growing up near the great bear sand dune right off of lake Michigan. It was maybe 2/3rds that size 20 years ago.

Barry- Way cool! I wonder who planted it and how old it would be. Larry

There is a big one at the Blithwold arboretum in Bristol RI that is close supposedly over 90' tall. They state it is the tallest east of the Mississippi. In fact, there are several specimens on this property. A great little arboretum, gorgeous grounds!

I don't remember for sure now, but I think it's in front of a house from the 1800s, and I'm guessing it may have been planted when the house was new.Larry Tucei wrote:Barry- Way cool! I wonder who planted it and how old it would be. Larry

Barry,
Thanks for posting this.
There's something very appealing about the outline of this tree. I think the outline alone would make a very nice work of art. Although I think I'd always prefer the original to the artificial:)

Barry,
Ive driven by this tree so many times and when I worked for Asplundth the guy who owns the tree tried to get us to cut it down and we refused because it was a Giant Sequoia. He asked a couple other people who also refused to cut it and there it remains. Great tree.

I took this pic a while back, it looks like it may have grown since then.
