St. Cloud MN Ash

One of my friends knows that I'm interested in trees so he wanted to show me a tree. It ended up being a Silver Maple that was 17'8". A nice size Silver Maple but not uncommon along the Mississippi area. Just before we were about to leave we had to stop and pick up a few things in the same area. Whe...

North Dakota Champion Cottonwood

I have been working in North Dakota lately and I decided to take a little detour on my way home back to Minnesota. I read on the North Dakota Champion trees that there was quite a large Cottonwood in Horace. 26'8". I saw a few pictures online of it. It has a name even Uncle Johns Cottonwood. It is a...

Re: The Pisgah Forest Elementary School Silver Maple.

So is it agreed that this tree should be measured at its narrowest point below 4.5', or should it be measured at 4.5'? I'm often confused by this because i see many silver maples and willows that are much larger at 4.5' than at 2'. I usually write down the measurement at 4.5' and the narrowest point...

Re: The Pisgah Forest Elementary School Silver Maple.

Excellent Silver maple! I know of a few large ones myself but I haven't measured one that large. I think its awesome that you brought your measuring stuff, you never know when you'll need to measure a tree.

Another Aspen and Maple

I also took a visit to Maplewood State Park near Pelican Rapids, MN. I talked to the Ranger there and he told me that there wasn't any old Growth that he knew of because it was old farm land before it was a state Park. I didn't find too many large trees but it has nice rolling hills with lots of sma...
