Attending the 2017 Wild & Woolly Forest Festival?

All, Just checking if any other ENTS are attending this Georgia ForestWatch event on Saturday, April 29th, 2017. I signed up for Jess's old-growth hike and Dr. Joan Maloof of the Old-Growth Forest Network will be speaking. Should be fun! http://myemail.constantcontact.com/Join-Us-in-Celebrating-Fore...

A Town Forgotten and a Lonely Ginkgo

NTS, Cairo, IL - I went through this town last October and knew that someone really needed to do an on the ground report of the state of the town with photos. Today I see that someone did just that. I stopped when I saw the big ginkgo on the main drag, but it was behind bars and even it gave off the...

Re: California Woods (OH)

Two happy campers (Iowa Big Tree Guy Mark Rouw and me) after a pleasant hike through California Woods last October. It was really neat to be able to "show off" the forest to another ENT.

Re: Link to Virginia Tech Dendrology Lab

Bob,

I entered my first tree last night. Super easy to do and I really like all the fields. It's very convenient how there is a checkbox to hide the location, and a field to indicate how many trunks. Big kudos to John Peterson, Don, you, and anyone else involved!

Re: Wilbraham filmmaker stalks the wild world of Mount Tom

Ray, Incredible, simply incredible! All, If you haven't already, go watch this film! I could go on and on with all my favorite parts, but go watch it instead of reading what I have to say! Bob, If I should be so lucky to tag along for ice cream I'm okay with 5 scoops, 4 scoops, or heck, even 1 scoop...

Re: Wikipedia

I read the comment for the Wikipedia article "Tree height measurement". An extract: In short, I have more confidence in numbers of log lengths and tree heights made by lumbermen who were experienced in the art of physically and directly measuring and cutting down trees than I have in the handful of...

Re: Crown Hill North Woods

NTS, Some of you have also been following this story, but just wanted to provide a brief update on Crown Hill North Woods. In November a trust offered to purchase the land from the VA for a negotiable price, which I haven't read resulted in any deal being considered. In December a judge blocked an i...
