Schappacher Park - SW Ohio

NTS, I felt like measuring some trees this morning so I headed out to a local park. The park is nothing to get too excited about, although it did provide a species mix that is uncommon for the typical open space park in this area. I don't know the history of this 10 acre park, although my impression...

Hermosa Creek on Fire

NTS, Not sure who has seen this news yet, but the fire at Hermosa Creek (named the 416 Fire) is currently at about 17,000 acres and only 10% contained. Most of the champions/height records that we have found there are within the fire zone including Silver Creek, Jones Creek, Swampy Creek, Stony Gulc...

Eli,

Nice! Those are tall. I'd like to see Fernbank Forest some day.

Re: The ghost of Gifford Pinchot

Bob, Mega, mega kudos to you, Joan Maloof and others that are out there defending what remains of our old-growth. The trees can't speak for themselves and if they can pay for their way out of the forest they usually do. Also, on a lighter note, I think I may have seen the aforementioned ghost peekin...

Trees around Telluride - just photos

NTS, I spent some time in and around Telluride last August and just wanted to share some photos, not that photos can do the trees/scenery/town any justice. Great, great spot nestled in the San Juan Mountains (thanks to Bob Leverett for introducing me to them!). I got dropped off in town and got pick...

NTS,

I visited this tree yesterday and it's still doing good. The updated height measurement is 179.7'.

Re: Largest Tree in New England

WOW!! I've never seen a deciduous tree that large in my life. That is a must-trip to be taken. Do any of you have a few photos of it from a distance which illustrates its overall shape and condition? Bob4st, Bob has a full tree photo in the Microsoft Word document in the first post, and here is a l...
