Re: Coast Redwood vs Giant Sequoia

Stefan- Many have written me that they think those living in Alaska are blessed (they're right!), but don't realize how good those who appreciate really good beer have it up here. It's not that we have a lot of breweries locally. It's not that we have more breweries per capita than those in the low...

Re: Exploring Lumpkin With Dunkin

Don,

I find this idea quite interesting. So, I copied the link to your post and pasted it into an email to Dr. Darla DeRuiter, the department chair for the Environmental Studies department. I await her reply. She is the sort of person who would have the interest needed.

Re: New Champion Mahogany FOUND

Turner, This tree was actually easier to measure than I thought it would be. It actually has a trunk (surprising) for the first 5 feet. At 5.5', it branches off into three huge branches, the largest of which is over 1 foot thick. It is a Cercocarpus ledifolius indeed. Bart, Deer LOVE Cercocarpus lea...

Re: NTS Gathering California

Larry,

I really like this idea. The NTS has needed another "East-meets-West" event ever since the last one was held in Durango.

I'm definitely on board with this idea,

Re: Exploring Lumpkin With Dunkin

Duncan, for some reason the ENTS server will not allow me to upload photos so I will email you a few so you can post ? I have 5 bee stings on my left ankle and foot alone. I am not able to wear a shoe on my left foot. I wonder if those were hornets ? I never got a good look at them before running. ...

New Champion Mahogany FOUND

NTS, Yesterday, I went with my grandfather Bill Harnach on a trip to meet a local named John Preschutti. John knew where to find a huge Mountain Mahogany, that we figured might become a new National Champion. We drove several miles down a back road to a small drainage, which we hiked up. Upon reachi...

Re: Exploring Lumpkin With Dunkin

Yesterday was an extremely fun day. My leg hurt a bit that night, but that is normal for me after a long bushwhack. Here are photos. I'll have a post on Sierra County Big Trees soon enough. DSCN8984.jpg DSCN8983.jpg The area also in near several known big trees, including the Hartman's Bar Tree, a f...

Re: Coast Redwood vs Giant Sequoia

John, I can not believe that I have never gotten the opportunity to go to the Sequoias, despite living here in CA my entire life. The trees look spectacular, and are on my bucket list. I've never even been to Calaveras Big Trees S.P, despite it being a mere 3 1/2 hours from my house. Then again, may...
