I think a tenth of a foot is fine. People who understand the methodology should understand the basics of significant digits. As for rounding down - NO. One of the prettiest fall foliage displays around is in McKittrick Canyon in the park when the maples turn. Perhaps it is the juxtaposition of the bright red maples and the desert setting, but it is gorgeous.
