Re: The Senator is dead

I was fortunate to have been able to visit the tree and take volume measurements. However, there is no way it was as old as claimed. One of my former employees climbed it and installed a lightening protection system inside the trunk. Hollow to the ground.

Re: Basking Ridge Presbyterian oak, gone but not forgotten

Sad to see such a tree go... I read somewhere the ring count was considerably less than the oft-touted 600 year old tree.

Re: New Height Record for Sycamore

Brian,

I measured the tree with Dr. Stephen Sillett of "The Wild Trees" and have a photo of him standing in the fork. He was impressed! I think it was tickling 160' then, in 2010 or so. I first measured it in early 2000's at 157' i think,

Re: North Chagrin Reservation: Cumulative Forest Data

I managed to get an average crown spread for the large pignut/red hickory that I located in the park. It has a max spread of 90ft with a perpendicular spread of 70ft for an average 80ft crown spread. The total points would be 275 which would make it the largest for the state whether or not its actu...
