Re: Hemlocks at Calli Nature Preserve (IN)

Matt, thanks for going to all of these areas locating and measuring the Eastern Hemlocks. I only made it to Hemlock Cliffs. I didn't see that you made a report on that area. I'm wondering if you found and measured the hemlock by the pool with the seasonal waterfall? This is the tree that named after...

Four trees named state champs

First of all I would like to state up front that I have not verified any of the following measurements nor did I write the article. I have copied from the 8th page of the Missouri Conservationist volume 74, issue 11, November 2013. "The past few months have been active ones for Missouri's State...

Re: Trees at the 9/11 Memorial

I belong to the International Oak Society and there was a thread on these trees a while back. It was brought up, even in this group, IOS, that you should never have a monoculture of anything. We, the US, have done this in the past. We first lined all of our streets with American Elms then came along...

Re: The Death of Champion

I'm glad to be back. Health issues took me out for a long time. I'm still not up to par but I'm getting tuned up.

Re: Old Logging Photos in Texas

I wish that we all could back in time to see the eastern forest as they were before all the logging companys came through. It would also be nice to see what they would have looked like with out any human intervention.

Re: white deer

There was a article in the Missouri Conservationist about some hunter killing an albino baby deer. They said it wouldn't make through the winter. MY A@@! There was a pic too. The only thing I wanted to was take the hunter's gun and hit over the head with it as hard as I could.
