Re: Redwood Coast Photos - 2018

Mario- Reviewing your coast photos (very nice!), the one immediately above has, along it's left side, maybe 2/3rds of the way up, three horizontal lines resembling what elsewhere I might think were scars caused by say a barbed wire fence line. I'm not suggesting that is the case. What do you suspec...

Sequoiadendron -- planted ? - 212 ft. - Oregon / 2020

Recently, our son and his wife moved to a camp in southern Oregon. I noticed a large trunk behind a wood shed, and realized it was a Sequoiadendron - cones, foliage, etc.. I went back to help sort an old wood pile, then afterward we measured the tree for fun. I was surprised to learn it was 212 feet...

Re: ENTS racks up 10,000 Spam emails to my gmail !! LOL

It's definitely been an unpredictable several months for the BBS. You are much more popular than I am with the spammers (I've only ever gotten one!) but I was having the same issue with the error messages- this only seemed to make the front page unusable, whereas if I searched subforums externally ...

Re: FR whodunnit mystery

It's been another 2 months gone by in regards to the FR crisis and figuring out who's behind it. Does anybody have any updates or evidence they'd like to share? Steve, consider condensing your original post to a few most pertinent points. But RE your last posts, let me add that I don't particularly...

ENTS racks up 10,000 Spam emails to my gmail !! LOL

Oddly, I had to block the ENTS / Native Tree Society from my gmail completely, because a flood of Spam reminders started flooding in. I tried to log in at the forums here within the past couple weeks when it happened, but the pages looked wonkers with error messages, or many lines of code and script...

Re: April Remeasurement Indicates Centurion is over 100m.

Both of you should have been skeptical before !! And I think the earlier dialogue enabled more people to understand the difference between taking time vs. piece-meal. But it's nice to hear that the height broadcast is really over 100m. On another note, my brother stopped by the other day and mention...

Thanks for sharing.

Apparently the article sweeps under a rug the crude promotional measure of Centurion we were discussing in this thread a few months ago:

This new discovery is noted being climbed, and climbed by scientists.

Re: NASA Measure Tree height with Your Smartphone

Bob, So what is the scientific purpose of this tangent-based height data if it can only be applied to needle straight trees, and probably only ones of small size as well. If their goal is ground truthing, why not purchase laser rangefinders and send researchers into the field to collect this data, ...

Re: Nikon Forestry Pro can't see branch ends in winter

This reminds me why I remeasured Humboldt Honey, the world's tallest maple, when it still had some leaves on the tips. I was using an Impulse 200LR and it seemed hit and miss aiming for tiny twig ends. But when there was some leaf, it would catch it most of the time.

Re: Cloning Ancient Trees

There was an interview of David Milarch on NPR Radio this morning. https://www.npr.org/2012/12/08/166784040/saving-ancient-trees-with-clones Comments? PS ... Part B to my previous reply. Here is a link to a blog post I wrote that partly dismantles part of the myth that surrounds some of the Archang...
